Ph.D. Expressions of Interest

The Centre for Astrophysics and Supercomputing (CAS) at Swinburne University in Melbourne is currently advertising for PhD positions for students of all Nationalities for start in late 2026/early 2027. Expressions of interest are due on 13 March 2026. Domestic applicants (Australia and New Zealand citizens and Australian permanent residents) will need to enrol before November 2026 and international applicants to enrol by February 2027 (specific dates will be shorty be confirmed by the University). Applicants are encouraged to contact potential supervisors about possible projects. A list of projects can be found here. Please access the EoI form here. Reference letters: We require two reference letters for all applicants. Reference letters must be emailed to the PhD Admissions coordinator by 13 March 2026 using a specific Swinburne form. Please also have the letters email to the University HDR Scholarship Office HDRscholarships@swin.edu.au. For an academic referee (someone who has taught you) please ask them to use this linked reference form. For a non-academice referee please ask them to use this linked form. Referees will be also emailed a reminder about the letter when you submit your EoI. These email sometimes end up in spam folders, so we kindly suggest you also remind your referees on submission of your EoI.

Applicants are encouraged to contact potential supervisors about projects at any time, in particular between now and the EoI deadline. A list of projects can be found here.

After the expressions of interest close, shortlisted applicants will be invited to an interview with CAS staff and further discuss projects with supervisors. After the interview successful applicants who have the support of a supervisor will be invited to submit a formal application to the University (due date 15 May 2026).
