SAO Graduation Ceremonies

Swinburne University will send current information regarding enrolments.

    Graduation Dates:

Swinburne graduation ceremonies are usually held in late-March/early-April, and in August/September, and December of each year. Graduations are organised by the Registrar's Department and all eligible students will be contacted by the university. (Note that international students can graduate in December. However, the late release of the Semester 2, aka Study Period 3, final grades means that international students may not be ready/approved for the December graduation if they completed their studies in Study Period 3.)

As of 2024, SAO and the Centre for Astrophysics & Supercomputing (CAS) are within the School of Science, Computing and Engineering Technologies, so be sure to check the SCET (postgraduate) graduation ceremony dates.

Information on graduation ceremonies can be found within this portal here.

CAS astronomers don't usually attend the off-campus graduation ceremonies, but sometimes do.

    Locations:

Graduation ceremonies are held at the Melbourne Convention Centre.

The Centre for Astrophysics and Supercomputing is located in the AMDC building at the Hawthorn Campus of Swinburne, located in Glenferrie, a precinct of the suburb of Hawthorn. It is a 10-20 minute train ride form the CBD, depending on which CBD train station you use, and if it is the morning or the afternoon (the direction through the city train loop reverses in the afternoon). However, this building requires keycard access so you won't be able to get in, and there's not much to see other than our offices.

    Associated Activities:

Sometimes we are able to invite you and your guests to visit the Centre for Astrophysics and Supercomputing on the day of your graduation. However, due to the pandemic, and multiple lockdowns in Melbourne, this has not happened since 2019.
